If you have been searching for somewhere to stay near Dungannon, you have probably noticed the same thing we hear from our guests: the town is busy with life and business, but genuinely characterful places to lay your head are thin on the ground. Most of what comes up is a chain on a bypass, or a room with nothing much underneath it.

We would gently point you fifteen minutes west, to Ballygawley, where The Tailor's House does something a little different. We are a restaurant with rooms — six boutique guest rooms sitting directly above one of the most talked-about kitchens in County Tyrone. You come for a proper dinner, climb the stairs, and wake up to breakfast without ever reaching for the car keys.

Fifteen minutes from Dungannon, and worth every one

Ballygawley sits just off the A4, an easy run from Dungannon and well placed for the wider Mid-Ulster area — Omagh, Cookstown, Aughnacloy and the border towns are all within comfortable reach. If you are breaking a longer journey between Belfast and Donegal, or Dublin and the north-west, we are exactly the kind of stop that turns a tiring drive into the best part of the trip.

That location is quietly one of our best features. You are close enough to Dungannon to be there in minutes for a meeting, a match or a morning appointment, but far enough out to hear the countryside when you open the window — with free parking at the door.

It makes us an easy base for all sorts of visits. Guests stay with us before an early start or a long drive, after a wedding or a family occasion nearby, for a quiet night away without the effort of a city, or simply because they wanted a good dinner and did not fancy driving home afterwards. Whatever brings you to this part of Tyrone, a comfortable room fifteen minutes from Dungannon tends to make the whole trip easier.

What the rooms are actually like

We have six individually styled guest rooms, in double, twin and family layouts, so whether you are a couple away for the night or a family needing more space, there is a room that fits. Each is put together with the same care we give the plates downstairs — comfortable beds, proper linen, good showers, free WiFi, and the calm of a building that has been looked after rather than thrown up. You can see them all on our rooms page.

We are deliberately small. Six rooms is not an accident of size; it is the point. The place never feels like a corridor of identical doors, and the people looking after you know your name by the time you leave. If a boutique overnight rather than a big anonymous hotel is what you are after near Dungannon, this is squarely it.

Because we are family-run, the best rate is always the one you book with us directly — no booking fees, no third-party mark-up. A small thing that adds up, especially over more than one night.

The reason most people come — and stay

The honest truth about The Tailor’s House is this: the rooms are lovely, but the food is why people make the drive.

Downstairs is a proper restaurant serving modern Irish cooking built on the best of local Tyrone produce. At the heart of the menu is something no chain hotel can put in front of you: dry-aged steak from Quinn’s, our own family butcher. The Quinn family has owned and run that butcher’s for over forty years, across three generations — so the beef on your plate has been chosen, hung and dry-aged by the same family that runs the restaurant. Our ribeye comes chargrilled and served simply, with an onion ring, garlic butter and a jug of peppercorn sauce. It is the dish we are best known for, and the reason “field to fork” is not a slogan here but a plain description of how it works.

Stay on a weekend and there is more waiting in the morning. We serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday — a Full Irish with all the trimmings, or something lighter. And if your visit lands on a Sunday, our Sunday lunch is a genuine local occasion: cooked to order, three courses, and a world away from a heat-lamp carvery.

One thing worth knowing when you plan: the restaurant serves Thursday through Sunday, so an overnight works beautifully around a weekend meal. The bar, the wine shop and the private function and garden rooms are all part of the house too, if you are marking an occasion or bringing a group together. It is always worth a look at the current menus before you book.

Dinner, bed and breakfast — the easy version of a night away

A restaurant with rooms removes every small friction from an evening out. No taxi to book. No one drawing the short straw to stay off the wine and drive home. You eat properly, have the glass of something you actually wanted, and your bed is a flight of stairs away.

For anyone near Dungannon after a treat that does not involve a round trip to Belfast, that is the whole pitch: a serious dinner and a characterful room, side by side, in one of the prettiest corners of Tyrone.
